A super hot day again and the Scot (me) and the Frenchman (Aurélien) were pretenting to be either mad dogs or Englishmen, I'm not sure which!
At the start I suggested an easy pace which was scoffed at and so we shot of faster than I would have gone on my own. The works in the park have moved, which mean my route though the park was blocked and we ended up jumping over children in a kiddies play area to get back to the route. Looped the bottom field and Aurélien was on my heels and pushing past on the hills. In the climb through the grounds of the Château de Penthes he suddenly pushed past and set an impressive pace on the hill. I tucked in behind and waited. Sure enough the huffing and puffing converted to an all together more realistic pace and by the time we were heading back though the path to the main road he was no longer on my heels. The woods were mercifully cool in the shade and the breeze brought some well need movement the air.
I let myself catch the guy in front - we crossed a tape that had fallen to the ground and we laughed that it was a bit like crossing the finish line at a race. Though we were not finished yet!
Took on water at the fountain and then the fast finish never really materialised, although I did sprint to the end from the tram crossing. As we came over the water fountains outside the palias des nations they came on and that was a nice cool down moment.
45 minutes and not slow enough to be an easy run so I'm claiming a tempo.
By mid afternoon the storm hit and everything became very wet and cold. How fast things change!

5.5m steady airport hill run
Out with Aurelien today and did the 5.5 miles in 48:34. Hardly a world record but the pace on the hill and makes it count as a steady run.
Caught a guy on the hill who was wearing only an HRT strap, but then had to wait for Aurelien for a few moments at the top.
Highlight of the run was seeing super elite Pierro our running up the UN hill as we ran back to the office.

6m? in Geneva - nearly easy with Tenke
I'd ducked out of the first in the series of TPV races which was tonight. So to make up for that I ran with Tenke at lunch time. We met up at the lake near my office and did the New Aiport Hill loop. 5min to get to the RV and then 48 minutes with Tenke, but she was tired and confused by me going around the bottom field the "wrong" way.
I huffed and puffed and Tenke eased the pace to a level where I could answer questions with more than a grunt.
At the office, she mocked my 5.5 mile loop as not long enough if your going to do a marathon.
As usual, she's right.
More miles.

5.5m New Airport Hill
Traditional variation in 45:28, so a bit slower than the perceived effort suggested.
Started too easy and moved through steady to full pelt on the home leg.
On the hill back to the fountain restaurant I pegged back and overtook a guy on the hill who then made a decent challenge for about 1 km I had him on my back until he vanished.
On the last section there was a girl in a lime green top who was skelping down the hill, at one point she increased the gap between us so I was flat out down the hill only to close the gap, but alas, not catch her.
Gouged out a chunk of my right arm on a fence (racing line - opps) and only noticed the injury when I found my pass was covered in blood.

5.5m hard Airport Hill
Fast one today doing airport loop the right way around.
At the fountain in the lower field I scooped the water so ineptly it went into my nose instead of my mouth, so coughed my way up the first side of the field.
Tough up the airport hill.
Over took into top field.
Fast down the hill.
Tough 9km run in new route PB, in 43 minutes and 2 seconds.

5.7m New Airport Hill Backwards
Backwards New Airport Hill route today. Ran what I thought was decent attempt up the hill, but I was tired. Tried to keep it up at the top and enjoyed the shade in the woods.
Penthes woods were a reminder of the tpv and tried to keep the speed up on the downhills.
Did the bottom field in reverse and was hot and tired, but feeling strong enough on the last leg.
47 minutes, so not so fast after all, ave. 8:15 min miles.

5.7m New Airport Hill
On my own today.
Did the bottom field in reverse for fun and started at the office (hence the extra 0.1) miles, which does not account for the slow time 48 minutes making ave pace around 8 and a half minute miles....
Which is doubly disappointing as when I got to the last section from the US mission on I hammered it down that hill trying to catch a group who in turn were trying to catch a guy shuffling down the hill in front.
Highlight of the run was getting over the traffic on the chair side of the place des nations and I ran under the broken chair!
As I walked through the shopping centre dripping in sweat from the downhill effort I bump into some people from work - who seemed to find my state amusing.

5.5m new airport hill with Piero
When I bumped into Piero at the water cooler he casually dropped into the conversation that he might run out of the office at lunch time, so this was the second opportunity in less than a week to run with the uber elite.
He was prepared for a "low intensity run" to see the trails I do and so I should be able to keep up. I opted for the reverse variation of the new airport hill and it was a great run. Piero graciously ran slowly for me and I don't think his hrt climbed much above 100 through the whole run. He runs like his legs are springs, effortlessly eating the hills and gliding along. I dreamed up very open questions to keep him talking and got some great stories about elite runners in Italy and the mountain races he's done.
I mentioned the Signal race, ah yes I did that a year ago and I was 2nd, was the typical way the conversation went.
We saw a peacock in the park with it's display open which was very nice.
My garmin failed completely so no stats, but roughly 46 mins, so still off my PR but started right away at the office and stopped at co-op so probably a shade more than the normal route.

5.5M New Montbrillant Airport Loop
New Montbrillant Airport Loop.
I like this version of the loop and it is a nice 5.5 miles. The Botanic gardens are a joy to run through, if busy on sunny afternoon like today.
The sun also provoked that odd Geneva reaction to hot weather, that is the topless bloke out running. Saw several sporting only shades and hrt straps above their racing shorts. Gave and received the runners' sign.
Looped the bottom hill, the top field out to the airport woods and back stopping at every fountain to quench my thirst. I love the one outside the bistro. Got a great look at some bloke's salad as I slurped down a handfull of water.
Home is down, not the airport hill but past the Amerian mission, the red cross museum and the Russian mission plus some swanky eateries. Finishing up outside the palais des nations who had thoughtfully turned on the big water square thing with plenty of jets to run through - that was a welcome cool down.
Killed the Garmin at the underpass and then off to the Coop to get some lunch in.
Ave. Was 8min miles and while it was only the second time I've done the route it was still a PB at 44 mins!

5.4 New Airport Hill
New that I know how the whole shower thing works I settled on seeing how far the Airport Hill loop is from Montbrillant rather than Holmes Place.
2.6 miles less is the answer. So I now need to figure a way to get that run longer. Conversely all my short runs are now unfortunately 2.6 miles longer. Eek.
Steady effort, drifting up to z4 in the second half but disappointing 8min mile return on investment. Still tired from the long weekend at the salon randonne in Villars....
